Proactive Building Maintenance

guide to title deeds

Following on from the recent storm and the effects that this has had on the country’s housing stock, Storm  Éowyn serves as a timely reminder of the benefits of having adequate resources in place to minimise the impact of such extreme weather events.

There has been widespread damage across the country as a result of this significant weather event and this is likely to continue to be felt by many homeowners over the course of the next few weeks and months as the clear up operation takes place. At HPMS our dedicated and valued staff have been working tirelessly on a surge footing ensuring that where our customers have experienced damage to their property the necessary support is provided to them through the provision of our factoring arrangements. In addition to passing instructions to and speaking directly with our homeowners’ contractors, following reports of damage, we have also been meeting regularly with representatives from our insurance broker, our customers’ insurance provider and their claims handling/loss adjusting team. We understand that such weather events at times can be distressing particularly where there is significant damage. We continue to liaise closely with the contractors on the ground, insurance providers and most importantly keeping our customers updated.

There is of course an argument that the country’s housing stock may not have experienced the level of damage being reported if the Tenement Maintenance Working Group’s recommendations had been put in place already. Introducing legislation that supports proactive building maintenance is key in helping to protect the country’s housing stock, which we understand is often our customers’ most valuable asset. There is a level of frustration around the pace at which the recommendations are being taken forward and while we appreciate that with any new legislation there can be unintended consequences, particularly when there is a cross over with existing legislation, the importance of compulsory owners’ associations, sinking funds and building inspections will play a vital part in protecting the country’s housing for generations to come.

If you would like further information on the benefits of proactive maintenance, building maintenance funds or owners’ associations, then please do not hesitate to contact your factoring team. Further information on the work of the Tenement Maintenance Working Group can be found by clicking here.
