We’re delighted to shine a spotlight on Lynsey Hutchinson MTPI, one of our Glasgow Team Managers at Hacking and Paterson Management Services (HPMS), who was recently honoured with the Factoring Award for an Outstanding Paper in the Professional Diploma in Factoring Exam 2024. The award was presented at The Property Institute Annual Seminar 2025 in London — a prestigious recognition of Lynsey’s hard work, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to excellence in the property factoring industry.
Lynsey’s paper addressed a highly topical issue — cladding remediation — which has been a significant focus across the industry following the Grenfell tragedy. Her essay explored how to approach a situation where extensive cladding required replacement. What made the topic particularly interesting was the variation in regulations between Scotland and England, highlighting how the same scenario might be handled differently depending on the jurisdiction.
Lynsey joined HPMS in July 2021, and as she celebrates her four-year anniversary, she reflects on a journey filled with growth, learning, and meaningful connections. In her role as Team Manager, Lynsey oversees a portfolio of developments and leads her own team. What she enjoys most is building strong relationships with homeowners, property developers, and contractors — as well as supporting and training newer members of staff, a part of the role she finds especially rewarding.
Over time, Lynsey’s responsibilities have evolved. She has transitioned from managing a mixed portfolio to focusing solely on ground maintenance developments, allowing her to deepen her understanding of specific aspects of the business — including the commencement of common management services.
Among her proudest achievements is successfully completing the Factoring Diploma — a milestone made even more meaningful by the challenge of returning to academic study after several years away. Her dedication was clearly recognised with her award-winning paper — though she admits she was initially in disbelief when the email arrived.
“I thought someone was trying to wind me up!” she joked.
Despite some nerves about stepping on stage, a few supportive words from colleagues helped Lynsey embrace the moment.
Looking ahead Lynsey, hopes to continue progressing within HPMS, inspired by the company’s strong leadership and the many individuals who have successfully worked their way up through the organisation. She finds that path especially motivating, knowing that real opportunities for advancement exist. She aims to achieve the next level of professional qualification and remain committed to continuous learning — something she believes is essential in the factoring industry, no matter how far one advances. Lynsey is also keeping a few personal goals in sight — including ticking off another Formula 1 Grand Prix from her bucket list!
Outside of work, Lynsey shares a love of travel with her dog, Poppy. Together they’ve made lasting memories over the past year — from attending Crufts (after being invited by a brand!) to exploring the Lake District and even visiting London. These experiences are ones Lynsey truly treasures.
Poppy has even made an appearance at our Glasgow office… perhaps eyeing a mascot role?
When asked what her ideal superpower in factoring would be, Lynsey replied:
“As tempting as it is to say the ability to know everything, I really enjoy learning — so I’d have to say the ability to keep everyone happy.”
At HPMS, we couldn’t be prouder of Lynsey’s achievement. Her success reflects not only her personal dedication, but also the culture of growth and excellence we strive to foster across our teams.
Congratulations again, Lynsey — we’re proud to celebrate this well-earned recognition with you!
