Dads Work

We continue our Charitable Giving Initiative in November with a £500 donation to DadsWork, a community project in East Lothian.

The charity was set up in 2003 to address the lack of services available that specifically supported fathers.  DadsWork aims to strengthen the relationship between dads, male caregivers, and their children by enriching their communities.

Along with arranging a number of projects and activities for dads and their children to enjoy together, the charity offers a weekly drop-in support group, an outreach service and one-to-one counselling, and a 4-week programme for “dads-to-be” which aims to upskill expectant fathers and teach them practical skills.

In addition, the charity is proud to provide a community garden situated in Musselburgh, which was specially designed for families to grow fruit and vegetables and spend time with each other enjoying the picnic area, fire pit and outdoor pizza oven.

The charity relies on funding to continue providing these special and varied services, particularly as we approach winter, to help support vulnerable families in the east of the country through the colder months.

Kevin Young, Project Manager, says:

“DadsWork are a charity supporting fathers and male carers in East Lothian, and we are delighted to be awarded £500 from Hacking and Paterson.

This donation is hugely valuable to the work we do with our families and as our families face a winter of uncertainty this donation will be used to support our new Cosy Livingroom Project where our families will be able to come to DadsWork and keep warm, have some hot food and have access to internet and additional support if required, particularly for energy financial support.

This gives these families an opportunity to meet other families in a safe environment”.
