August charitable giving initiative with Maggies Glasgow

We continue our charitable giving initiative in August with a £500 donation to Maggie’s Glasgow.  This charity supports people living with or recovering from cancer in a calm and friendly space away from the clinical environment of a hospital.

The charity was formed in 1996, with the first centre being opened in Edinburgh by Maggie Keswick Jencks, who used her own experience of cancer to create a new type of cancer care.

Maggie’s has now grown into a network of centres built beside NHS hospitals across the UK, providing professional support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries.  There are currently a further 6 centres in development, with the charity hoping to have 30 centres open in the UK by the end of this year.

Maggie’s is an independent charity, separate from the NHS.  All services, including workshops, courses, and one-to-one and group support, are free, with no appointment or referral needed.

The support offered has been shown to improve physical and emotional wellbeing and to help people take control when cancer turns their lives upside down.  Understanding every person’s individual circumstances is central to what Maggie’s does and allows them to guide people to the support that will help them the most.

Jennifer Blair, Centre Fundraiser for Glasgow, says:

“We were absolutely thrilled to receive such an incredible donation and we can’t thank Hacking & Paterson enough for your support.

These continue to be incredibly challenging times for everyone, particularly for people with cancer and their families, and this donation will help us continue to offer the professional face-to-face support they need now more than ever.  Whether it’s benefits advice, time with our psychologist, or a cup of tea and a chat at our kitchen table, Maggie’s Glasgow continues to be here for people in their time of greatest need.

Thank you so much to the team at Hacking & Paterson for your generosity and support.”
