Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow

Our 2021 Charitable Giving Initiative continued in August with Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow being nominated as the recipient of a £500 donation.

Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end of life charity, providing frontline nursing and hospice care as well as a wealth of information and support on all aspects of dying, death and bereavement, and the Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow, struck a personal chord with one of our team members as the charity provided unforgettable help and care to her family during a tough time.

Coronavirus has tested everyone over the past eighteen months and the way Marie Curie has been able to fundraise has suffered dramatically with public appeal collections and their special events season having to be cancelled due to the pandemic.

Throughout the pandemic, Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow, along with the other eight hospices throughout the country, remained open to provide both virtual and in-person support. Care at the Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow is always free of charge to patients and their families which means fundraising from local supporters is so important.

Marie Curie’s Nursing Service also continued delivering direct care into peoples’ homes throughout this challenging time and, during March 2020, the charity launched their bereavement service which is available to anyone affected by the death of a loved one either recently or many years ago. This service, which provides a safe space for people to discuss the feelings and emotions they are experiencing as part of their grief, was successfully launched amid the challenges of the first wave of the pandemic in order to meet an unprecedented need at a time of crisis.

Georgina Bushell, Partnership Manager for Marie Curie Scotland, was delighted to hear the charity had been nominated to receive this month’s donation and passed on a huge thank you to everyone at Hacking & Paterson Management Services.

The charity says:

“Despite being the most challenging time most people have experienced, Marie Curie is proud to have been able to be there to provide care, support and information to dying people and their loved ones, carrying out vital front line work bringing comfort to people facing the hardest of times.

We can’t do this without you. It’s only down to the generosity of our supporters that we’re able to do this vital work. Your support has an immeasurable impact on the lives of people affected by terminal illness, death and bereavement.”
