The Fionn Brogan Trust

The Fionn Brogan Trust

As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, and our ongoing commitment to supporting local and national charities this year, we remain focussed on our Charitable Giving Initiative for 2021, with the company committing to donating £500 each month to a different charity.

As you may be aware, at the end of 2020, we invited all of our employees to nominate the charities they would like Hacking and Paterson to consider making a donation to in 2021. This month, after being approached by one of our customers who has made us aware of a well-deserved charity he has a particular connection to, we are delighted to announce the recipient of the charitable donation of £500 for May 2021 will go to The Fionn Brogan Trust.

Fionn Brogan is a four-year-old boy who has been diagnosed with the fatal condition, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Signs and symptoms of DMD usually show around age 3-5 years with muscle weakness affecting the child’s walking, climbing steps, balancing and other activities.

It is a progressive condition, which in simple terms means it gets worse and worse over time. DMD begins by affecting a particular group of muscles, usually within the legs and hips first. Over time children with DMD will need to use a manual wheelchair, then a power wheelchair as the condition worsens. Eventually the condition will progress to loss of ability to lift their arms and hands up and eventually requiring machine assistance to breathe.

Duchenne’s is life limiting and the average life expectancy of a child with Duchenne’s is mid-twenties. There is no cure.

The goal of the Trust is to be as proactive as possible in ensuring they limit the inevitable barriers Fionn will face throughout his life and to maximise Fionn’s potential going forward. Funds are needed to assist Fionn in all areas of his life now and into the future.

If you would like to become involved, or make a donation to The Fionn Brogan Trust, you can do so at https://fionnbrogantrust.ie/.

Niall Brogan, for The Fionn Brogan Trust said,

“Thank you for helping us to raise funds for Fionn Brogan who has been diagnosed with the fatal condition, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Every penny raised has a hugely positive, direct impact on Fionn’s life and you can read what has been achieved so far http://www.fionnbrogantrust.ie/fundraising-events/.

The aim of our fundraising this year is to pay for the costs of adapting the family home to enable Fionn to maintain a barrier free and independent life as long as is possible. This donation is greatly received and appreciated.

You can be assured that every single penny raised goes to supporting Fionn’s needs, and that this is administered by the Fionn Brogan Trust. You can find out more details on the Trust and how it is Governed on our website- www.fionnbrogantrust.ie “
