HPMS and Homelessness – Rock Trust

rock trust

Following our stories on Social Bite and Shelter Scotland, we would now like to showcase the third homelessness charity to benefit from HPMS’s Charitable Giving Initiative this year – Rock Trust.

For over 30 years, Rock Trust has been supporting Scotland’s young homeless people by ensuring every young person has access to the services required to assist them to avoid, survive and move on from homelessness.

The young people the charity works with have access to a variety of opportunities including 1-1 support workers, mentors, mediation and health and well-being support alongside regular evening groups and short educational courses.

Rock Trust also runs a number of special programmes including their Youth Housing Hub in Edinburgh where people aged 16-25 are able to get advice around housing, benefits and employment as well as the opportunity to develop their independent living skills and social activities.

“Nightstop” is a community hosting service in Edinburgh and West Lothian where volunteer hosts offer their spare bedroom to a young person in crisis while further support options are explored, and “Upstream Scotland” is an innovative schools-based homelessness prevention programme which involves a screener tool to assess four key areas where early intervention can be critical in reducing the risk of future homelessness.

Last year Rock Trust was able to support over 900 young people to move on from homelessness or avoid it altogether and the charity depends on fundraising and volunteering to help young people in Scotland have the futures they deserve.

Joanne Simpson, Partnerships Lead at Rock Trust, was delighted to receive HPMS’s donation of £3,750 and said:

“It sounds like we share very similar values in wanting to make sure everyone has a safe and happy home to live in.

On behalf of everyone here at Rock Trust, thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. It’s thanks to incredible people like yourselves that we’re able to provide vital support to Scotland’s most vulnerable young people.”
