Cladding Update

scot gov

The Scottish Government published the Housing (Cladding Remediation) (Scotland) Bill on 1st November 2023 which seeks to give powers to Scottish Ministers to assess and remediate buildings with “unsafe cladding” and where the consent of the owners cannot be provided.  They also plan to create and maintain a Cladding Assurance Register to record details of any assessments undertaken and subsequent works.

In addition to this, the Bill would give Scottish Ministers the power to establish a “Responsible Developers Scheme” to promote engagement with developers and encourage them to pay for any required remediation work on buildings they developed.

Click here to find out what Housing Minister, Paul McLennan, has said about this scheme, and to access the Bill itself, as well as view some useful information on the background of the cladding issue.
