MND Scotland

Our Charitable Giving this month is a £500 donation to MND Scotland which is the leading charity in Scotland providing care and support to people affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND). This charity was put forward by a member of our Glasgow Property Factoring Team whose close friend sadly lost her life to this disease and who wants to continue the hard work of the charity in raising awareness and providing support.

Motor Neurone Disease is a rapidly progressing terminal illness which stops signals from the brain, meaning that over time, muscles weaken and eventually stop working. It affects people in different ways and progresses at different rates. There is currently no known cure.

MND Scotland can help by offering support and information about living with the disease, including advice on equipment, communication aids, counselling, physiotherapy and even accessible holiday accommodation. The charity runs a network of support groups, where people can meet and chat informally in a social setting, sharing tips and experiences and occasionally being visited by guest speakers to talk on subjects of interest to the group.

As well as providing care and support, MND Scotland funds vital research into finding a cure for this disease. There is still so much to learn about MND and the charity has a strong focus on drug trials and recording and evaluating clinical information to help understand the causes, identify treatments and slow, stop and reverse the effects of the disease.

Iain McWhirter, Head of Fundraising at MND Scotland, said:

“I’m so grateful that MND Scotland has been chosen to receive this wonderful donation of £500 from Hacking and Paterson Management Services. This will help us to provide a range of vital practical, financial and emotional support services to individuals and families affected by MND.

“The fight against MND won’t stop until we find a cure, and until that day MND Scotland will be here for everyone who needs us. We couldn’t do it without your help.”
