Building Maintenance in a Changing Climate

Following on from our recent news stories on the RICS report on Maintenance of Tenement Scheme Property and the City of Edinburgh Council’s Shared Repairs Missing Share Service, both of which strongly support proactive maintenance of tenement property, Edinburgh World Heritage in conjunction with Historical Environment Scotland, have now published a ‘Guide to Building Maintenance in a Changing Climate’. The guide focuses on the impacts that climate change may have on traditional buildings in the capital and the potential financial impact this may have for the building homeowners.

In addition to highlighting the effect of climate change on property, the guide also offers a useful and practical guide to both proactive maintenance and maintenance responsibilities. It also explores the benefits of maintenance in preserving a buildings appearance along with financial benefits. The guide reports that “Every £1 ‘saved’ by not carrying out preventative maintenance could cost £20 in repairs within 5 years” (Society for Protection of Ancient Buildings)

At Hacking and Paterson Management Services our team are on hand to assist our customers in meeting their common maintenance obligations and we are happy to meet with our customers to offer further advice on a proactive approach to building maintenance. Should you require any further information then please do not hesitate to contact your dedicated property factoring team.
